ART @ St. Patrick School
Teacher: Mrs. Nancy Vanness

Our 2015 Art Fair is scheduled for June 5th from 6:30-8:00pm.
The classroom hallways, and library will be turned into a showcase of your children's art work. We will combine this with an alumni celebration of the many years St. Patrick School has been part of our lives and community. Music and light refreshments will be provided in our dining room where you will be able to view a photo gallery of many "moments" throughout the recent years at our school. Historical photos and information will be displayed in the mansion section of our building. Come share the memories of good times at St. Pats School!
Spring 2015 Projects:
Self Portraits are a curriculum project for the older students. I try to incorporate students images into their drawings to help them achieve satisfactory art work. First and Second grade will also so a "self portrait" type of project using a decorated shadow box effect.
We have also been working on "Rock tile" projects, textures, and weaving.
Winter 2015 Projects:
Februaury Projects will include mask making with fiber paper and paste using forms to create animals, human faces. Use of recycled milk catrons will help the 4th grade students to create basic face forms. We will use a variety of items to decorate in individual styles.
It's 2015 already and winter weather is upon us. Winter scenes can be seen inside as well as out. The hallways of St. Pats school have snowmen and forests covered in snow! Watch for our clay projects to be on display soon in the main entranceway of the school as each class completes their artwork.
Our Kindergarten class constructed a winter evergreen scene using geometric shapes.
First and Second grades will be building snowmen with paper and fabric.
Third through Sixth grades are beginning work on their air dry clay projects including
clay methods such as: Pinch and pebble pots, hump molds, and slab techniques. Once dry they will be painted and on display.
December is here already!! Classes will be decorating St. Pats hallways with Christmas themed projects: Snowflakes "falling," ornaments and wreaths hanging, stockings filled with thanks, and Nativity scenes colored.
Autumn 2014 Projects:
During the month of November, many classes made time to produce ornaments for our Christmas Tree display at the Owego Historical Society and Museum in which St. Patrick School participates. Our theme is "Buttons and Bows." Please take time to schedule a visit to the museum to see our button ornament creativity!
October brought fall folliage inside the hallways of St. Pats School with:
Leave Collages using printing methods and overlapping
Large leaves with veins using warm/cool segmented leaves
Positive and Negative spaced Jock-O-Lanterns
Spray Painted Leaf "Shadows"
Our first projects in Kindergarten included learning about primary and secondary colors.
First through sixth grades did various name projects such as:
Alphabet Names learing about standards concerning lines and shapes
Block lettering using warm/cool colors
Tie Dyed Buble lettering within a grid
Cursive Creatures learing about organic forms in a symmetrical fashion

Each grade added elements to the school entranceway display case. This year we will be "CONNECTED IN CHRIST" in many ways. Please notice our display case when you visit our school.
