1st Grade Students

Please visit the Video Page to watch and listen to examples of music from around the world.  Show them to your parents and try to find to locate what part of the world the music comes from using a map of the world!

2nd  & 3rd Grade Students

Students can practice playing rhythms using the Rockin' Rhythm Master Game found here!  Also, encourage them to compose their own music.  A great tool is included there as well!

4th and 5th Grade Students

Practice the Note Name Game on the Classics for Kids website!  The faster you are able to recognize the note names, the easier time you will have playing the recorder.  This is a fun way to get in some practice!

Kim Metaxas holds a New York State Teaching Certificate in Music Education K-12, and has over twenty years of experience performing with, and teaching, a variety of school and community music ensembles, including concert bands, marching bands, and Jazz ensembles.  She has earned degrees in Instrumental Conducting, Music Education, and Music Therapy, which has provided her with the qualifications to teach woodwind, brass, percussion, and string instruments, as well as piano and guitar.

Music was an incredible part of my school years, and continues to be one of the most meaningful and energizing activities in my life!  My passion is to provide youth, as well as adults, with opportunities to learn and enjoy music.

Currently, I perform and conduct with several community ensembles, including Vestal Community Band, Maine Community Band, and the Royal Blues Big Band from Owego!  In the fall of 2013, I founded, and presently direct, Overture: A Beginner Level Concert Band for Adults.  You are never too young, or old, to get involved with music!
